Crypt of the NecroDancer has recently announced a crossover collaboration with the popular virtual idol, Hatsune Miku. In this new update, players will have access to a new character – Hatsune Miku. With the ability to move in all 8 directions and a unique playstyle that involves dancing through enemies with a spring onion, players are in for a fresh gameplay experience. Furthermore, Hatsune Miku does not rely on a shovel to dig, instead, she can dash through enemies into walls. Players can charm monsters and shatter walls using her special ability – SING. By landing consecutive hits, players can deal increasing amounts of damage and regain SING charges.

Accompanying the arrival of Hatsune Miku as a playable character is a brand new soundtrack featuring 15 Hatsune Miku songs. This new soundtrack includes two tracks created by Danny Baranowsky, adding a unique flavor to the game. From upbeat tunes like “Wonder Style” to more intense tracks like “Hello Builder”, players will have a variety of songs to groove to while playing as Hatsune Miku. The soundtrack is enabled by default when playing as Hatsune Miku but can also be selected for other characters in single-player mode.

Compatibility Notes and New Features

Players who do not own the DLC can still join online multiplayer sessions hosted by players using Hatsune Miku. This crossover update also introduces a compatibility mode for joining online multiplayer lobbies hosted on older versions of the game. Additionally, a “Cross-play” option is available when hosting a multiplayer lobby, allowing players from different platforms to join by temporarily reverting the game to a previous patch.

In this update, default multi-press combos for special actions have been changed to no longer apply to controllers, giving players more flexibility in assigning controls manually. Several bug fixes have been implemented, including addressing screen tearing on some systems. Players experiencing screen tearing issues are advised to visit the “Display Options” menu and uncheck “Reduce Input Lag” for a smoother gameplay experience.

Overall, the Hatsune Miku DLC update for Crypt of the NecroDancer promises an exciting addition to the game, with a new character, soundtrack, and features that enhance the player experience. Whether you’re a fan of Crypt of the NecroDancer or a follower of Hatsune Miku, this crossover event is sure to provide a fresh and entertaining twist to the rhythm-based dungeon crawler. Be sure to keep an eye out for the release of this update on the Nintendo Switch, coming “soon”.
