The Fallout franchise has experienced a significant resurgence recently, largely due to the success of the Fallout TV adaptation on Amazon Prime Video. This unexpected success has led to a surge in interest in the Fallout video games, particularly the latest installment, Fallout 4, which has seen a resurgence in popularity among gamers.

Confirmation from Todd Howard

In light of the success of the Fallout TV series, Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard has confirmed that the next game in the series, Fallout 5, is in development. However, fans of the franchise will have to exercise patience, as Howard revealed that Fallout 5 will not be released until after Elder Scrolls 6 hits the market. With no firm release date for either game, it appears that fans may be in for a considerable wait.

Given the lengthy development cycle of Bethesda’s previous major release, Starfield, and comments from Xbox boss Phil Spencer suggesting that Elder Scrolls 6 is at least “five plus years away,” it is realistic to expect a release date of 2028 or later for the highly anticipated RPG. Following this timeline, it is unlikely that Fallout 5 will be released before 2030, which may come as a disappointment to fans eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series.

Looking ahead, it is clear that fans of the Fallout series will have to wait a considerable amount of time for a new entry. By the time Fallout 5 is released, it will have been 15 years since the launch of Fallout 4, marking an unusually long gap between installments. The Fallout TV series may have concluded by then, and the hype surrounding the franchise may have waned.

Prioritizing Elder Scrolls 6

Despite the anticipation for Fallout 5, Todd Howard has emphasized that the primary focus for Bethesda Game Studios is currently on Elder Scrolls 6. While plans for other projects are in the works, including updates for Fallout 76 and Starfield, it is clear that the Elder Scrolls series remains the studio’s top priority in the near future.

Fans of the Fallout series should prepare for an extended wait before the release of Fallout 5. With Elder Scrolls 6 taking precedence in Bethesda’s development plans, it may be several years before we see a new installment in the beloved post-apocalyptic franchise.
