After years of legal battles and disputes, the beloved anime series Macross Plus is finally making its way to Blu-ray for fans worldwide to enjoy. Known as Robotech in the western market, this cult-classic series was caught in a web of licensing issues between Bigwest, Studio Nue, and Harmony Gold, which prevented its release outside of Japan for decades. However, a new agreement reached in 2021 paved the way for a special Ultimate Edition Blu-ray release, much to the delight of die-hard fans.
The Macross Plus Ultimate Edition Blu-ray, priced at $190, is a comprehensive set that promises to deliver an immersive viewing experience. Exclusively available through the Crunchyroll Store, this box set includes the complete four-episode original video anime series in a stylish slipcase. In addition to the episodes, fans will also receive a hardcover book detailing the behind-the-scenes production process, featuring staff interviews and concept art. The set further includes nine art cards and an A4 poster for collectors to cherish.
An Unprecedented Offering
For the first time in history, Macross Plus will be accessible to fans outside of Japan in a high-quality Blu-ray format. The discs are packed with content, including the movie and OVA versions of the series, both English and Japanese dubs, and an exclusive interview with chief director Shoji Kawamori.
