Metal Slug Tactics, a unique turn-based strategy game set in the world of the classic SNK shooter series, has recently made its debut with a demo available on Steam Next Fest. This spin-off offers players a chance to experience tactical combat, level up characters, and make strategic decisions in a roguelike tactical RPG setting.

In Metal Slug Tactics, players are tasked with guiding the members of the Peregrine Falcons squad through various missions, improving their skills, upgrading weapons, and choosing which objectives to pursue. Each character has the ability to move and shoot in the same turn, allowing for strategic positioning and coordinated attacks. By staying mobile, players can activate a damage reduction modifier that is crucial for survival in intense battles.

One of the key features of the game is the Sync attack, which is triggered when attacking an enemy with a friendly squad member nearby. This mechanic allows players to maximize damage output and gain an advantage on the battlefield. Additionally, as squad members engage in combat and complete Sync actions, they can build up Adrenaline, which can then be used to unleash powerful special abilities unique to each character.

True to its roots, Metal Slug Tactics includes the iconic armored vehicle known as the Metal Slug. Players have the opportunity to pilot various vehicles throughout the game, each with its own set of abilities and limitations. The Metal Slug, for example, consumes fuel with each attack but can unleash multiple assaults as long as there is enough fuel available. In addition, fallen squad members can be revived using a 1up token, although players must manage their resources effectively as reinforcements are limited and must be earned through completing specific objectives.

Metal Slug Tactics offers a fresh and engaging take on the classic series by blending turn-based strategy elements with the fast-paced action that fans have come to love. With a demo available for players to try out, it’s clear that the game’s depth, strategic gameplay, and unique features set it apart as a must-play for both newcomers and longtime fans of the Metal Slug franchise.
