In the world of desktop PCs, the need for proper cooling is paramount to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Traditionally, this has been achieved through the use of fans to move air through the system. However, one individual decided to take a unique approach to cooling by spinning the entire PC itself.

Sodabaka, a content creator on Bilibili, embarked on an unconventional experiment to cool a desktop PC by spinning it in a centrifuge. The initial setup involved an older Sandy Bridge era i5 2500K Mini-ITX system with a tower heatsink being subjected to rapid rotation. Despite the innovative approach, the results were less than ideal, with temperatures soaring to 100 degrees Celsius, causing the system to throttle.

Undeterred by the initial setback, Sodabaka sought to explore other cooling options. They tested a larger Noctua NH-P1 passive cooler, both with and without a small fan attached. While the addition of the fan improved performance slightly, the temperatures still reached a critical point. In a further attempt to enhance cooling, Sodabaka 3D-printed large fan blades that were attached to the motherboard tray. However, the extreme measures, including the use of a full face mask and protective riot shield, made it clear that this was not a practical cooling solution.

As the experiment progressed, the centrifugal force proved to be too much for the PC. The NH-P1 cooler, weighing over a kilogram, became dislodged and ultimately destroyed the system. While the endeavor was lighthearted in nature, it served as a stark reminder that traditional cooling methods, such as fans, remain the most effective and practical choice for PC cooling.

Sodabaka’s daring experiment to cool a desktop PC by spinning it in a centrifuge may have ended in disaster, but it highlighted the importance of practicality and effectiveness in cooling solutions. While innovation is crucial in the world of technology, sometimes the simplest methods are the most reliable. As PC enthusiasts continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, it is essential to remember the fundamentals of cooling to maintain system performance and stability.
