Canberra-based studio Blue Manchu recently unveiled their exciting sequel to Void Bastards, titled Wild Bastards, during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted showcase. This captivating announcement offered gamers a first look at Wild Bastards’ gameplay and a tantalizing glimpse into its intriguing characters. Building upon the success of its predecessor, this sequel promises to deliver an enhanced rogue-like combat-exploration experience, featuring expanded maps, diverse environments, and a remarkable sense of style.

A World of Variety

In an interview with PC Gamer, John Chey, designer at Blue Manchu, described Wild Bastards as an extension and expansion of Void Bastards, introducing players to a wide array of fresh challenges. One notable improvement lies in the level design, with Wild Bastards offering significantly more variety compared to its predecessor. Gamers can expect six distinct environments, ranging from snow-covered mountains to airless, low gravity hostile worlds.

Within each environment, players will encounter various locations such as small settlements, rail stations, roadblocks, and wilderness areas. Each of these levels presents unique gameplay dynamics, including different sight lines, varying amounts of cover, and environmental hazards. The intricate level design adds depth and complexity to the overall gaming experience, keeping players engaged and on their toes every step of the way.

Chey also highlighted the studio’s commitment to elevating the personality and character of Wild Bastards. Rather than focusing on generic “clients,” the sequel introduces more vibrant and recognizable outlaw heroes. These colorful characters each possess their own distinct abilities, making the gameplay experience even more dynamic and thrilling.

One such character is Smoky, a cook who tragically burned to death but now controls fireballs. Another intriguing addition is Hopalong, a captivating “snake-man-cowboy with a lasso.” Hopalong expertly uses his weapon to trip up enemies, ensuring their elimination from battle. Furthermore, players will encounter other intriguing outlaws throughout the game, including Kaboom, who possesses the unique ability to turn his friends invisible, and Preach, who can share health pickups.

Wild Bastards incorporates a Darkest Dungeon 2-inspired friendship system to unlock these compelling abilities. Each character offers specific advantages on the battlefield, adding strategic depth to the gameplay. As players navigate through labyrinth-like stages, these diverse abilities will prove invaluable, increasing the intensity and excitement of the game.

Notably, the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted showcase featured an array of other thrilling titles alongside Wild Bastards. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth caught the attention of viewers with its intriguing premise, while S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl promises a gripping post-apocalyptic experience. Fans of strategy games will be delighted to hear about the highly anticipated release of Homeworld 3 and its captivating interstellar battles.

Wild Bastards stands poised to deliver an adrenaline-fueled and visually striking experience that builds upon the success of its predecessor, Void Bastards. With its expanded maps, diverse environments, and captivating outlaw heroes, this sequel promises to captivate gamers and keep them on the edge of their seats throughout their thrilling journey. As the gaming world eagerly awaits the release of Wild Bastards, it is clear that Blue Manchu is determined to raise the bar for rogue-like combat-exploration games, leaving players craving more action and adventure.
