Larian Studios has taken the gaming world by surprise with the official release of Baldur’s Gate 3 for Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. However, this news seemed to have slipped under the radar, with the studio opting for a low-key announcement on Twitter/X rather than a grand revelation. In a short post, Larian said, “Xbox players, it’s party time. Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available for Xbox Series X|S; start your adventure today!”
Given the significant presence of Baldur’s Gate 3 at The Game Awards, it is quite puzzling that the release for Xbox Series X and Series S was relegated to a Twitter/X announcement. Larian Studios CEO and founder Swen Vincke admitted that the reason for this was his own forgetfulness. Vincke stated, “I had one job and that was to announce this [the Baldur’s Gate 3 release for Xbox Series X/S] if we won an award. Sorry all but happy it’s out there!”
As revealed by Larian earlier, the long-awaited release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X and Series S encountered obstacles in its quest for console parity. The studio aimed to ensure that the game’s quality and features matched those of the PlayStation 5 version. However, technical issues, particularly with splitscreen mode performance, caused a delay for the Xbox release. According to the studio, “We’ve run into some technical issues in developing the Xbox port that have stopped us feeling 100% confident in announcing it until we’re certain we’ve found the right solutions.”
Over the past few months, Larian has dedicated its efforts to rectifying these technical issues. The studio has diligently worked on updates and patches, introducing new features for players on PlayStation and PC. The newly-released Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will benefit from these fixes and updates, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience.
