The recent announcement of Square Enix’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has sparked speculation among fans that the first two games in the series could also be getting the same treatment. A reliable leaker, Midori, hinted at the possibility of a trilogy release, referring to it as the “Loto trilogy” which includes Dragon Quest I, II, and III.

In the latest video update, the mention of the “legend of Erdrick” has fans excited about the potential of a full trilogy remake. Erdrick is the protagonist of the third game, and the original three releases are often collectively referred to as the ‘Erdrick Trilogy’ or the Loto trilogy in Japan.

Midori suggested that more information about the trilogy release could be revealed in the next Nintendo Direct, with a release date expected by the end of the current fiscal year. This news comes after Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake was officially announced in May 2021, hinting at a long development process that could potentially include remakes of the first two games as well.

Dragon Quest creator, Yuji Horii, previously hinted at the possibility of remakes for Dragon Quest I and II, adding to the speculation of a trilogy release. Although not confirmed officially, Horii’s comments suggest that Square Enix has been considering the idea for some time.

With the upcoming release of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, fans are eagerly anticipating the potential announcement of a trilogy remake encompassing all three games in the series. The hint of this possibility has sparked excitement and speculation within the Dragon Quest community, raising the question of whether Square Enix is truly gearing up for a trilogy release. Only time will tell if fans will get to experience the first two games with the same modern treatment as the third installment.
