The Fallout London mod, a project that aims to depict the nuclear Wasteland in England’s capital, is facing a significant setback due to Fallout 4’s upcoming next-gen update. The project, which was originally set to be released on April 23, is now being delayed indefinitely.
According to project lead Dean Carter, the next-gen update will likely “break” many mods, including Fallout London. This is because a lot of Fallout 4 mods rely on the Fallout 4 script extender, which is expected to malfunction with the new update. As a result, the Fallout London team will have to wait for fixes from the modders behind the extender before they can proceed with the release.
Carter expressed his frustration in a video announcement, stating that all their hard work over the past four years is at risk of being rendered useless due to the impending update. The release date, which was previously set in stone, is now up in the air as they wait for the necessary modifications to be made.
The Fallout London mod heavily relies on systems based on the Fallout 4 script extender, including dialogue systems and other features like the UI and perks system. All of these components will require fixing once the update is rolled out, adding to the technical challenges faced by the modding team.
Another obstacle that the Fallout London team is facing is the size of the mod itself. At around 30 to 40 gigabytes, the mod is deemed too large to be released on consoles or popular mod hosting websites like NexusMods. However, the team is exploring alternative options to make the mod accessible to players who own the game on GOG.
The Fallout London mod is experiencing delays and uncertainties due to the Fallout 4 next-gen update. The modding team is working tirelessly to address the technical challenges caused by the update, with hopes of delivering a stable and enjoyable experience to players. Despite the setbacks, the team is determined to see the project through and provide fans with the immersive Fallout experience they have been eagerly anticipating.
