Google Photos is undergoing some major changes with the introduction of Collections. This new feature aims to simplify the way users organize and access their albums, making it easier to find and enjoy their favorite memories.
What to Expect from Collections
Collections is designed to house all of your albums in one convenient location, including private albums, shared albums, and new folders for people, pets, documents, and places. This new destination is part of Google’s efforts to enhance the overall user experience and prepare for the launch of the Gemini-powered Ask Photos assistant.
In addition to Collections, Google Photos has also revamped the search tab with a more user-friendly interface. The latest update replaces image tiles with a list of suggested options like Screenshots, Selfies, and Menus, making it easier to find specific types of photos.
Users can now navigate between different album views, such as “All,” “Shared with me,” and “My albums,” with just a tap. Favorites and Trash folders are prominently displayed at the top, while other tiles may rotate based on user behavior. Locked Folders will no longer be suggested at the top, addressing previous user complaints.
Some changes to the Utilities folder have been made, with certain tools being relocated for easier access. For instance, the option to create a Locked Folder can now be found at the bottom of Collections. Users can also import images, create albums, collages, and highlight videos, and manage photo frames directly from their Google Photos account profile.
