Amazon Games boss Christoph Hartmann has expressed his company’s commitment to developing games for the Switch 2 in the future. Despite this, he emphasized that he is not overly concerned about the timing of the new system’s release. Amazon Games is currently working on publishing the next Tomb Raider game and producing a new Lord of the Rings MMO, along with other upcoming titles. Hartmann mentioned in an interview with IGN that they are eager to develop games for the Switch 2, stating, “We obviously plan to develop games for it and I can’t wait for it to be out.”

Hartmann also mentioned that he would prefer Nintendo to take the time to perfect the system before releasing it quickly. He emphasized the success of the Switch and stated that he would be willing to wait another year for the new system if necessary. He highlighted that most non-Nintendo developers typically include the Switch as part of a portfolio mix of platforms and advised patience when it comes to the system’s release.

Anticipated Announcement and Market Impact

Nintendo is expected to announce the successor to the Switch before April 1, 2025. The Switch has been highly successful, approaching the record for all-time console sales held by the PS2. The upcoming launch of the Switch 2, or whatever name it may take, has the potential to boost the video game industry in 2025. Additionally, the release of GTA VI in the same year is anticipated to have a significant impact on the market.

Hartmann, a former executive at 2K Games, also touched on the role of artificial intelligence in game development. He mentioned that Amazon Games is not significantly affected by the ongoing actor strike, as their games do not heavily rely on acting. Amazon Games recently unveiled a new game, King of Meat, during Gamescom, showcasing their ongoing presence in the gaming industry.

Amazon Games is looking forward to developing games for the Switch 2 and remains patient about its release. Hartmann’s insights into the market and the company’s focus on innovation, as well as their upcoming game releases, signal a promising future for Amazon Games in the gaming industry.
