It’s that time of the year again when Rock Paper Shotgun closes up the treehouse for a much-needed Christmas break. While I appreciate the sentiment and the need for rest, I can’t help but wonder if the timing is right. It’s cold outside, and sitting in a treehouse may not be the most comfortable option. However, our bosses seem to believe that January is the perfect time to return, despite the inevitable confusion with the year. From experience, I know it will take us at least three months to adjust to writing “2024” correctly.

Despite our absence, we don’t want to leave you feeling completely bereft. In appreciation of our readers, we have scheduled some hashtag content for you to enjoy during our break. Tomorrow, we will reveal our highly anticipated Game of the Year 2023. Although it seems many of you already know the winner from the discussions on Discord, let’s play along with the charade. After all, playing charades is a traditional pastime during this season.

If you were disappointed with our Advent Calendar this year, fear not. We have something special for you. Our RPS Selection Boxes, lovingly called hon. menchies by some of us, contain games that didn’t make it onto the calendar but are still worth recommending. Starting from the 26th, you can expect to find at least one Selection Box recommendation every day.

To prevent you from becoming unmoored in time, we have prepared a series of RPS Year In Review roundups. In one of the roundups, Ed has compiled a list of the Bestest Best reviews from this year. Additionally, we have curated a selection of the best features and guides that defined 2023 from our perspective. These articles will help you catch up and reflect on the gaming highlights of the past year.

As a special treat, we have made a collection of Supporter-funded posts available for everyone to read. These posts, along with many others, can be found under the “From The Archive” tag. We greatly appreciate the support from our readers, and we hope you enjoy these exclusive articles.

Last but definitely least, we couldn’t forget our annual Christmas Crackers. Brace yourself for some truly awful jokes that we shamelessly outdid ourselves with this year. With one new joke every day of the break, it’s something to look forward to, even if it’s just for the sake of perspective.

As the year comes to a close, I sit here in the past, scheduling countless tweets for all the content mentioned above. Meanwhile, I’m probably enjoying a chocolate and already contemplating my game-related resolution for 2024. Personally, I strive to play more weird and unconventional games each year. It’s become somewhat of a tradition for me.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you. Thank you for being a part of the Rock Paper Shotgun community and for your unwavering support. Enjoy these much-needed few days off, and we’ll see you next year on January 2nd. Hopefully, you won’t be too hungover by then!
