Recently, Alderon Games, the creator of the popular dinosaur MMO Path of Titans, made a bold decision to switch from using Intel 13th and 14th Gen-based servers to AMD processors. This move was prompted by what the founder of Alderon Games, Matthew Cassells, described as “significant” instability issues that have plagued the game. According to Cassells, the Intel processors used by the game have been causing thousands of crashes on gamers’ CPUs, as well as potentially corrupting SSDs and memory.

Cassells pointed out that in the experience of his team, 100 percent of the affected CPUs “deteriorate over time, eventually failing.” This alarming assertion has prompted concerns not only within the gaming community but also among tech enthusiasts and professionals. On the other hand, RAD Game Tools, a maker of Unreal Engine decompression tools, contradicted Cassells’ claims by stating that “only a small fraction” of the processors are actually affected by these issues.

The controversy surrounding Intel’s i9-13900K and i9-14900K CPUs and their alleged role in causing storage and memory corruption on servers is a new development in this ongoing saga. Initially, Intel had attributed the game crashes to motherboards with improper overclocking settings on home computers. However, as pointed out by tech experts at Level1Techs, this explanation does not hold up when it comes to crashes occurring on server hardware, which are typically set up more conservatively.

In a separate incident, a developer working on the popular game Warframe revealed that a vast majority of the crashes they recorded were due to driver failures in Intel’s 13th- and 14th-Gen processors. Interestingly, the developer noted that the crashes ceased on a staff member’s gaming rig after a recent BIOS update was installed. This development contradicts Intel’s previous statement in June that the identified problem was not the root cause of instability.

As the debate over the reliability and performance of Intel processors continues to unfold, it is clear that there are differing opinions and experiences regarding the issue. The decision by Alderon Games to switch to AMD processors highlights the seriousness of the concerns raised by developers and users alike. Ultimately, the resolution of these challenges will require collaboration and transparency from all parties involved in order to ensure a stable and secure gaming experience for all.
