In a surprising move, Microsoft announced in late 2023 that they would be shutting down the Xbox 360 Store and its associated online services. This decision was made in order to shift focus towards the newer Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. With only two months left before the scheduled shutdown in July 2024, Microsoft has decided to discount a variety of Xbox 360 games, urging players to make their purchases before it’s too late.

“To celebrate the legacy of Xbox 360, we’re working closely with our publishing partners to offer significant price reductions on a wide selection of games from our online store and the Xbox 360 Store on the console,” stated Mike Nelson, Xbox Wire editor. Microsoft plans to release even more discounted games on 18 June and 16 July, aiming to provide players with the opportunity to preserve these digital games before they are no longer available.

Players who have purchased any Xbox 360 games from the Xbox 360 Store will retain access to these titles indefinitely. This means that even after the store shuts down, players will still have access to the games they purchased. While some games will still be available digitally through the Microsoft Store, the closure of the Xbox 360 marketplace is expected to drive up prices for physical copies of games, potentially making them harder to find.

Game Selection and Discounts

Microsoft has compiled a list of Xbox 360 games that are being steeply discounted, with most titles priced at 80-90% off, making them a great bargain for players. Some of the games included in the sale are Far Cry 4, Child of Light, Murdered: Soul Suspect, Raving Rabbids: Alive & Kicking, Sniper: Ghost Warrior, Thief, and Worms Revolution. These discounted games offer players a chance to experience the best of Xbox 360 at a fraction of the original cost.

As the Xbox 360 Store prepares to close its virtual doors, players are encouraged to take advantage of the discounts offered by Microsoft and secure their favorite titles before they disappear forever. With the shift towards the newer Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, the end of the Xbox 360 era marks a new chapter in gaming history. Players who want to relive the nostalgia of the Xbox 360 era or discover classic titles for the first time should act fast to ensure they don’t miss out on this unique opportunity.
