Bethesda recently released the “Next Gen Update 2” for Fallout 4, addressing some of the issues from the previous update and adding graphics settings for PS5 and Xbox Series X. However, a closer look at the update reveals some concerning aspects that may not sit well with players.
One of the main points of contention with the new update is Bethesda’s recommendation to stick to the default settings, despite adding the option to customize graphic fidelity and performance. This recommendation raises questions about the necessity of the new settings and the actual impact they have on gameplay experience.
The update introduces the ability to choose between 30, 40, and 60 FPS frame rate targets, with 60 FPS being the default. However, Bethesda points out that selecting 40 FPS requires a display capable of supporting 120Hz, adding complexity to an already confusing decision-making process.
Another feature of the update is the option to switch between visual and performance modes, with performance mode set as the default. The fact that players can choose between these modes while trying to maintain the frame rate target recommended by Bethesda raises concerns about the overall stability and performance of the game.
The language used by Bethesda in the update notes, such as “highly recommend” and “may adjust internal resolution dynamically,” does not inspire confidence in the changes introduced by the Next Gen Update 2. Players may be left wondering if these new settings are truly beneficial or if they are just added for the sake of having more options.
While the update promises general stability improvements and fixes for visual issues, such as certain imagespaces, the overall impact of these changes remains to be seen. Players are eagerly waiting for performance analyses to determine if the update has indeed addressed the issues from the previous patch.
Unfortunately, PC players may feel left out with this update, as the only mention of improvements for them is a fix for an issue with the widescreen setting. This lack of attention to the PC community may lead to further disappointment and frustration among players.
The Fallout 4 Next Gen Update 2 introduces some much-needed changes and additions to the game, but the way in which they are presented and the recommendations given by Bethesda raise doubts about their effectiveness. Players will have to wait and see how the update truly impacts their gaming experience before making a final judgment on its overall success.
