After five years in development, Peacock has made the decision to drop the Battlestar Galactica reboot. The show never received a formal order to series during its time with the streamer. However, Universal Content Productions is not giving up on the project and plans to shop it around to other outlets now that it is no longer in development for Peacock.

One of the most likely destinations for the Battlestar Galactica reboot, besides Peacock, would be Syfy. This channel previously broadcasted the 2003 Battlestar Galactica reboot and could be interested in picking up the new series. Additionally, other major streaming platforms may also show interest in acquiring the show.

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail was the driving force behind the Battlestar Galactica reboot. The new series was reportedly set in the same continuity as the 2003 miniseries and the subsequent series that aired in 2004. However, after writer Michael Lesslie left the project in 2021, Derek Simonds was brought on board as the showrunner and writer in 2024.

Originally created by Glen A. Larson for ABC in 1978, the original Battlestar Galactica ran for only one season. The show followed a fleet of survivors on the run from the Cylons, a race of robots that nearly wiped out humanity. Despite its short-lived run, the series gained a cult following and was later rebooted in 2003 with great success.

After the conclusion of the second Battlestar Galactica series, Syfy attempted to keep the franchise alive with the prequel show Caprica, which only lasted for one season. Another prequel, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, was a 10-episode web series that did not get picked up as a full TV show. Additionally, in 2020, Simon Kinberg was attached to a separate Battlestar Galactica movie project, but there have been no recent updates on its progress.

While the Battlestar Galactica reboot has faced setbacks with Peacock dropping the show, there is still hope for its future. With the talented creative team behind the project and the potential interest from other outlets, fans of the franchise may soon see a new chapter in the epic space saga.
