Modders MerseyRockoff and glassfish77 have recently made waves in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt community by restoring boat racing quests that were originally cut from the game. This mod brings back four tournaments that were created from scratch based on CD Projekt Red’s writing. Despite the races themselves being new creations, all the writing and audio used in the mod were sourced from the game files. This attention to detail ensures that players will experience the quests just as they would have if they were part of the original game.

Players will have the opportunity to participate in the boat races starting from Novigrad and sailing towards either the city or Redania. While The Witcher 3’s boats may not have been the most exciting aspect of the game, the modders have included plenty of conversations between quests to keep things engaging for players. This restoration of cut content not only adds new adventures for players to experience but also showcases the creativity and dedication of modders in keeping the game’s community thriving.

The discovery of these boat racing quests is just the latest in a series of cut content revelations that have emerged since the release of the REDKit modding tool. Modders have previously uncovered a significant portion of the game’s ending that was left on the cutting room floor, including a scene involving Yennefer betraying the Lodge Of Sorceresses. While some cut content, such as ice skating swordfights, may never see the light of day, the modding community continues to dig deep into the game’s files in search of hidden gems.

The willingness of modders to embrace the “wonkiness” of introducing new systems into established games like The Witcher 3 demonstrates their dedication to pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the game’s universe. While some features may ultimately be deemed too unwieldy to include in the final game, the modding community’s creativity and passion for the source material are undeniable. As players eagerly await updates to existing mods and new discoveries from the modding community, one thing is certain: the impact of modders on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is far from over.
