SunnySide, the latest game that mixes farming, crafting, dungeon-crawling, cooking, creature-battling, and romance, draws heavy inspiration from Persona 4. The creator of the game’s concept, Siavash Shahlaei, revealed that the idea for SunnySide stemmed from his childhood love for Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland. He aimed to capture the same atmospheric essence of a small Japanese town that he experienced while playing Persona 4.

While SunnySide may seem like a mishmash of different genres like Harvest Moon, Lake, and The Sims, it also incorporates social systems inspired by Persona 4. The game’s approach to developing interesting characters and unpredictable storylines was heavily influenced by Persona 4 and Fruits Basket. The studio’s co-president and narrative director, Sydney Stockdale, highlighted that Persona 4’s emphasis on character development and emotional attachment inspired SunnySide’s narrative structure.

Despite its ambitious goals, SunnySide managed to launch on PC last month, with plans for a release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in the future. For those eagerly awaiting the next installment in the Persona series, SunnySide offers a chance to engage with colorful characters and immerse themselves in a world reminiscent of Persona 4’s rich social interactions.

Overall, SunnySide’s fusion of diverse gameplay elements and social systems influenced by Persona 4 creates a unique gaming experience that caters to players looking for a blend of farming simulation, dungeon exploration, and heartfelt character relationships. As the game continues to evolve and expand, it remains a testament to the enduring influence of Persona 4 on contemporary game development.
