Asus has recently announced its upcoming handheld gaming PC, the ROG Ally X, which is a modified version of the original ROG Ally. While details are still scarce, the company has revealed that the new device will come in a sleek black color. Employees Jake Kulinski and Whitson Gordon shared some information during a brief ROG stream, indicating that the ROG Ally X will boast significant improvements compared to its predecessor.
According to Kulinski and Gordon, the ROG Ally X will feature enhancements in various aspects, including battery life, storage, RAM, ports, and potentially other physical changes. Asus is keeping the specifics under wraps until a ‘Special Announcement’ on June 2, which will provide a comprehensive overview of the device. The company has hinted at a substantial battery life improvement, but exact details remain unknown at this time.
In addition to the improved battery life, the ROG Ally X is expected to offer more RAM, a longer M.2 SSD slot, and redesigned joystick modules. Asus has also mentioned that the device will be easier to repair, addressing issues from the previous model’s design. Notably, the company has relocated the SD card slot to prevent the troubles that plagued the original ROG Ally.
On the software front, a new version of Armoury Crate is slated to launch in July 2024, introducing new tabs and navigation tools. Users will have the ability to share controller mapping profiles similar to the functionality seen on the Steam Deck platform. Despite these software advancements, the ROG Ally X will retain the same hardware as its predecessor, utilizing AMD’s Z1 Extreme processor and a 1080p 7-inch IPS screen.
Asus is gearing up to unveil the ROG Ally X, a refined handheld gaming PC that promises notable enhancements and improvements. With a focus on battery life, repairability, and software features, the new device aims to elevate the gaming experience for enthusiasts. Stay tuned for the official reveal on June 2 to learn more about Asus’s latest innovation in portable gaming technology.
