The recent rumours surrounding the upcoming ‘Switch 2’ have sparked a lot of interest among gamers worldwide. According to Chinese peripheral manufacturer Mobapad, the successor to the current Switch models will be a “conservative evolution” of the existing system. This evolution is said to be more of a refined Pro model, with some significant upgrades in terms of hardware and features.

One of the most significant upgrades mentioned in the rumours is the larger screen with 1080p resolution support. This is a big improvement considering the current Switch consoles only max out at 720p. Additionally, the new Joy-Con controllers are said to feature an ‘electromagnetic suction docking structure’ controlled by electric current. The ‘ZL’ and ‘ZR’ buttons are rumored to be metallic, and there will be a completely new button on the left and right sides of the controllers. The addition of a new function button below the Home button on the right Joy-Con is also mentioned, adding more functionality to the controller.

One of the reassuring aspects of these rumours is the claim that the new console will be fully backward compatible with both digital and physical Switch games. This means that players will be able to use their existing game library on the new system without any issues. Furthermore, the new Switch 2 is said to support the current Switch Joy-Con controllers and Pro Controllers, although it’s suggested that the Joy-Cons might only work remotely due to the new magnetic structure.

The dock for the Switch 2 is reported to work similarly to the current models but will include a metal damping bracket for improved angle adjustment. In terms of visuals, the dock will have a slightly different appearance and will support 4K resolution, providing a more immersive gaming experience. These enhancements ensure that players will have a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience on the new console.

While the information provided by Mobapad is intriguing, it’s essential to remember that all details regarding the Switch 2 should be taken as rumours until officially confirmed by Nintendo. Given previous instances of misleading information in the gaming industry, it’s crucial to approach these rumours with a healthy dose of skepticism. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of potential new features and improvements, but until Nintendo makes an official announcement, it’s best to temper expectations and wait for concrete details.
