Meta has provided extensive documentation for developers looking to utilize the Threads API, along with an open-source sample app available on GitHub. The company has already conducted testing of the API with a select group of developers, including Grabyo, Hootsuite, Social News Desk, Sprinklr, Sprout Social, and Techmeme.
The integration of Threads API with various platforms has already shown promise, with Techmeme automating posting to Threads and Sprout and Hootsuite customers seamlessly feeding Threads posts into their social media management systems. However, the real test lies in whether developers can build standalone Threads apps that are not tied to existing platforms.
While the fediverse beta integration offers some hope for independent Threads apps, there are limitations such as the inability to view replies and follows from the fediverse. This indicates that there is still work to be done in making Threads a viable alternative to third-party social media platforms.
