Ghostbusters seems to be the movie franchise that simply refuses to die, constantly resurfacing with mediocre reboots and sequels. The latest news is that Destiny 2 will be receiving Ghostbusters-themed cosmetics next week, adding to the never-ending nostalgia and cash grab cycle.
As expected, the Ghostbusters crossover in Destiny 2 will feature the familiar characters from the original movie. Slimer, the iconic green ghoulie, will appear as a skin for your floating Ghost companion. However, the polygonal design and accordion arms of Slimer seem oddly out of place in the futuristic sci-fi world of Destiny 2.
Another recognizable element from Ghostbusters, Echo-1, will also make an appearance in Destiny 2. While the specifics of its implementation are not yet clear, it seems that Echo-1 may be a skin for one of the game’s hoverboards. Additionally, a Sparrow with demonic horns will be included in the crossover, although it lacks the distinct Ghostbusters charm and instead resembles something from another franchise like Diablo.
The Ghostbusters cosmetics will be available in Destiny 2 starting on March 19th, coinciding with the release of the new Ghostbusters sequel Frozen Empire in theaters. Despite the continuous stream of reboots and sequels, it remains uncertain whether this franchise will ever find a definitive conclusion. The question lingers – will this be the final installment that puts Ghostbusters to rest for good? Based on the pattern of endless revivals, the answer is likely no.
