It is with great disappointment that we announce the cancellation of the highly anticipated TimeSplitters reboot. Former employees of the now-defunct Free Radical Design have recently released concept art online, providing a bittersweet glimpse into what could have been. This serves as both the first and last look at the game, as its title was never officially revealed.

The concept art, shared through various platforms, offers a tantalizing view of different stages, environments, and early character designs. As we delve into the vast collection, we discover an assortment of rock formations, architectural wonders, water tankers, ladders, and intriguing objects that could have added depth and immersion to the game.

One notable stage depicted in these artworks involves a “Brutalist Level,” featuring a road built into a mountain or mine. The rugged brick architecture and edgy designs create a captivating environment. Beyond the main cavern, the concept art reveals an outer landscape adorned with ice floes and prison-like structures, adding an element of mystery and danger.

Additionally, the concept art showcases the Western-themed level, appropriately named “Western.” This level boasts a classic saloon, a dusty plain, and frontier-style buildings, exuding a perfect setting for TimeSplitters’ fast-paced first-person shooter gameplay. The abundance of buildings and haystacks provides ample cover for strategic maneuvers.

The concept art also introduces a range of characters, each with their unique aesthetics and personalities. Alfred Turner, one of the game’s concept artists, has masterfully created an intriguing lineup. Among his works are a little girl in a red pinafore, a fairy woman, a morally ambiguous nun, a clown, a ringmaster with massive thighs, a lady clad in a lobster suit, a medieval maiden-slave, a half-eaten zombie cop, and a mutated priest.

These diverse character designs hint at the depth and creativity that could have been embodied within the game. Their inclusion would have undoubtedly contributed to an immersive and captivating gaming experience.

Regrettably, the released concept art serves as the final remnants of Free Radical Design’s ambitious plans for the TimeSplitters reboot. With the studio’s closure and the project now in limbo, our imaginations can only speculate on the potential greatness that could have been achieved.

As fans, we can’t help but yearn for what might have been, as we find ourselves lost in the intricacies of the concept art, longing for the chance to explore these captivating worlds and engage with their unique inhabitants.

The release of the concept art offers both solace and sorrow. While we can appreciate the incredible talent and creativity showcased in these pieces, it brings to light the missed opportunity and the unfulfilled potential of the TimeSplitters reboot. For now, we can only reflect on what could have been, forever cherishing these remnants of a game that never came to be.
