Kirsten Dunst, best known for her role as Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, has recently admitted that she has not watched any of the Spider-Man movies that were made after her time in the franchise. Not only that, but she also revealed that she has not seen any of the Marvel Studios films. During an interview with Variety, Dunst made it clear that superhero movies, despite their popularity, are simply not her cup of tea. She did, however, mention watching Paw Patrol, expressing her disinterest in the genre with a dismissive eye roll.

Despite her disconnection from superhero films, Dunst did share that she is open to returning to the big screen, especially in another Spider-Man movie or any superhero movie in general. The main driving force behind this decision, according to Dunst, is the financial stability it provides for her family. As a mother of two children who also supports her mother, Dunst views acting in lucrative movies as a way to secure a comfortable life for her loved ones.

In 2021, Spider-Man fans were delighted to see Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield make appearances alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson was only mentioned in passing, as she was not asked to reprise her role in the film. Despite this missed opportunity, Dunst remains open to returning to the Spider-Man franchise, particularly if she gets to work with Tobey Maguire once more. She even suggested a unique indie approach to the superhero genre, inspired by the film Chronicle.

While Marvel and Sony have not yet announced the release date for the next MCU Spider-Man movie, fans can still look forward to additional films from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Kraven the Hunter is set to hit theaters on August 30, followed by Venom: The Last Dance on October 25. As for Kirsten Dunst’s potential return to the superhero world, only time will tell if she decides to take on the role of Mary Jane Watson once more.
